Salamander at the BAU

January 2025

Strong Presence at the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials and Systems

January 2025 – With over 180,000 visitors from 58 countries, BAU 2025 in Munich successfully concluded last Friday. Salamander seized the opportunity at this international trade fair to present its innovative window and sliding door systems across nearly 200 square meters of exhibition space. The focus was on sustainable product design, cutting-edge material concepts, and tactile product experiences. At the heart of the presentation were the product debuts of the minimalist bluEvolution82_straight window sash and the evolutionDrive_HST lift-and-slide door in combination with the new levelZer0 threshold – a barrier-free zero-threshold solution. These innovations merge sustainability, aesthetic elegance, and functional excellence, drawing particular interest from architects. The clean stand design and personalized in-depth consultations by the Salamander team completed the successful presentation.

Overwhelming Response at the Fair

More than 1,000 visitors stopped by the Salamander stand to explore the innovative myWindow_experience. Among the 400 registered guests were many international architects and planners. A standout attraction was the Greta®Fenster line, especially the Greta®Fenster_loop and Greta®Fenster_dinkel models, which many visitors highlighted as their favorites of the fair.

Salamander also impressed with its more than 100-year legacy of sustainability – including its in-house leather recycling efforts dating back to 1923 – and how this ethos is translated into forward-thinking window solutions. The guided tours for architects were particularly well-received, offering a striking demonstration of how Salamander integrates architectural needs into product development. A wine tasting featuring Salamander’s own Pago de Salamander red wine, paired with exclusive Iberico ham, provided a stylish and memorable end to each day.

Debut of Product Innovations 2025

Following the successful market launch of the greenEvolution_straight, Salamander showcased a new minimalist sash for the modular bluEvolution82 series. With a maximum construction height of 2.80 meters and slim sightlines, bluEvolution82_straight sets new benchmarks in natural lighting and solar energy gains. Optional aluminum cladding on the frame combines the benefits of both aluminium and PVC in an exclusive design – delivering better insulation at a fraction of the cost of traditional aluminum windows.

In the sliding door segment, Salamander presented the evolutionDrive_HST lift-and-slide door with the new modular levelZer0 threshold solution. These large-scale elements provide flexible solutions for contemporary living concepts, offering outstanding stability and barrier-free access. The levelZer0 system provides flush floor transitions for truly accessible living according to DIN 18040 and is fully eligible for subsidies. Its low installation height and ramp adaptability make it ideal for both new builds and renovations.

Windows for Every Era – Stylish, Period-Accurate Renovation

The “Typology” cube featured custom window solutions tailored to various architectural periods. Salamander’s flexible modular systems allow for both aesthetic and energy-efficient enhancements in new constructions as well as renovation projects.

A particular highlight was the greenEvolution_free sash from the greenEvolution modular system. With a slender 100 mm face width, it authentically recreates the refined look of historic wooden windows, such as the iconic gallows windows of the early 1900s.

Materiality with Character

The “Materiality” cube highlighted windows with a distinctive appearance and feel, emphasizing honest material expression. The classic pureWhite window impressed with its durable, colorfast, brilliant white surface. Featuring a recycled core, it saves 17% CO₂ compared to windows made from virgin material – combining timeless design with sustainable values.

In contrast, the Greta®Fenster_loop window, with its grey monolithic look and concrete-like surface texture, is made entirely from recycled material and saves 51% CO₂ over its lifetime. The "loop" designation indicates that the profiles are recyclable up to seven times.

Another innovation, the Greta®Fenster_dinkel, is a nearly black window in monolithic style with a lively, organic texture. Its outer layer contains 10% spelt husks, which store CO₂ for decades and reduce the use of virgin plastic. Combined with a recycled core, it saves up to 31% CO₂.

Passive House Certification for bluEvolution82 System

On the third day of the trade fair, Adrian Muskatewitz, Head of the Components Division at the Passive House Institute (PHI) in Darmstadt, presented Salamander’s management with the official Passive House certificate for the Salamander I passivHaus_Fenster within the bluEvolution82 system.

Meeting the high requirements for cool-temperate climate zones, the window enhances energy efficiency with its innovative evoCore core made of insulating recycled foam. This replaces the conventional steel reinforcement and delivers exceptional thermal insulation.

With this second certification – the first having been awarded for the warm-temperate climate zone – the internationally recognized PHI once again affirms the outstanding climate protection performance of this system. A major milestone for sustainable building.
